After the elections, during the formation of the new composition of the European Commission (EC), ten associations of the Lithuanian transport sector appealed to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, calling for a Lithuanian representative to seek the post of EC Transport Commissioner. Associations of the transport sector are convinced that the candidate delegated by Lithuania could significantly contribute to the implementation of the common EU transport goals.
"We are contacting you on behalf of transport sector associations to express our concern about the importance of the duties of the European Union Transport Commissioner for the Republic of Lithuania. We are convinced that the representation of Lithuania in this high and influential position would be extremely important for our country and the entire transport sector community", the transporters' appeal reads.
At the same time, it is emphasized that experts and specialists working in the Lithuanian transport sector are ready to share their knowledge and experience in order to create a coherent, innovative and future-oriented European transport policy. Lithuania is an important transport and logistics link in the European Union, with a strategically significant geographical position and a well-developed transport infrastructure. It is claimed that Lithuania plays a critical role in the movement of goods in Europe and to third countries, therefore, according to the transport sector employees, efficient and sustainable management of the transport sector is necessary both for the Lithuanian economy and for the functioning of the EU common market.
The appeal was signed by the Lithuanian Transporters' Union, the Lithuanian National Association of Motor Carriers "Linava", the Lithuanian National Association of Freight Forwarders and Logists "Lineka", the International Transport and Logistics Alliance, the National Aviation Association LAVIA, the Civil Aviation Association, the Association of Lithuanian Shipping Agents and Forwarders, Lithuanian Maritime Cargo companies association, the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts and the Lithuanian Shipowners' Association. The signatory organizations represent road, air and sea transport companies.
