On May 17, the president of the association Tautginas Sankauskas, members of the presidium Gediminas Kuncevičius and Vytautas Verbickas participated in a bilateral meeting of Lithuanian and Kazakh transport authorities and representatives of the transport business, held at the Kazakh Embassy in Vilnius. The meeting was initiated by the Embassy of Kazakhstan with the help of the Confederation of Lithuanian Industrialists (LPK).
Kazakh Ambassador Timur Urazayev noted in his opening speech that the development of Kazakhstan's transit and transport potential is an integral part of the wide-scale economic reforms carried out by the government of our country in recent years. He also emphasized the importance of the event for the further development of trade and economic interaction between the two countries.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev spoke about the ongoing works to increase cargo transportation on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), including the Aktau and Kuryk seaports, which, according to the results of the 4 months of this year, have increased traffic volumes on this route by 15 percent. The pace of cargo transportation through the port of Kuryk increased by 34%, and in the port of Aktau - by 27% of containers. This year, it is planned to deepen the port of Kuryk in order to ensure sufficient depth for ships to enter. The Kazakh minister invited Lithuanian investors to jointly implement infrastructure projects.
The Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Lithuania, Julius Skachkauskas, expressed Lithuania's interest in increasing the volume of cargo transportation through TITR. He noted that the entry of the Lithuanian national railway company "LTG Cargo" into the "TITR International Association" last year opens up new opportunities to increase the volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
After the official part, the business forum continued in the format of B2B negotiations between Kazakh and Lithuanian companies. This is an important step towards developing economic cooperation between Lithuania and Kazakhstan, especially in the sectors of transport and logistics.
